Season 2008-09

TWO years after they triumphed at Knighton Park in the County Cup, Loughborough Saints returned and pulled off the same feat as they beat Leicester Polska 4-2. Polska started much the stronger side, and veteran defender Chris Lewis scored his first goal since October 2005 after powerfully heading in a corner on 19 minutes. But Saints began to find their feet, and after a decent spell of pressure equalised on 44 minutes. They then took the lead on 58 minutes only for Lewis again to score just a minute later, an amazing long range shot that should be on the shortlist for Polska's goal of the season. The last time Lewis scored a double for Polska was in December 1998! But Saints then ran the Polska defence ragged and went ahead again on 62 minutes, before sealing the win on 80 minutes to make it 4-2. Polska did not play well for parts of the game, but will still feel a little frustrated as they had 3 shots cleared off the line and althogether more chances than the visitors.
