 Match Report

LEICESTER POLSKA enjoyed the perfect start to 2010 with a 4-0 win over Leicester Foxes in the Billy Walton Cup. Things are likely to get harder for us now we are in the quarter finals. It was the first Polska clean sheet for Andrzej Podburalzynski (as well as the teams first of the season) since shutting out The Cutting Room in November 2008. The first half was a scrappy affair, with Rich Ellis standing out in the opening 20 minutes, but Polska didn't get involved enough, and Foxes could have had something to show for their impressive work rate had they maybe had the belief they could get something out of the game. But it was 0-0 at the interval. Polska came out firing in the second half, and Savo Wieczorek opened the scoring on 48 minutes when stabbing the ball past Foxes keeper Mark Wait. Rich Ellis then scored a lovely left sided shot two minutes later, and by this stage all the hard first half Foxes work seemed to have gone. Chris Rudkin made the game safe on 66 minutes, before a cracking long range effort from Mark Ilnicki just a minute later capped a good win. It was a good team performance, with many good performances, Chris Eames, Jamie White and Andy Staines standing out as well as those already mentioned, but in truth, everyone did very well, and Polska will now be wondering what awaits them in the quarter finals.
