 Match Report

Many Polska fans may have thought they'd seen the best of John Garden over the years, but the Polska stalwart - who made his debut 15 years ago for the club and epitomises the spirit and loyalty of the reds - showed he is still a class act after his first man of the match performance in 10 years. Skippering the side for the first ever time, it is hard to describe the player as a 'veteran' as he certainly didn't look too long in the tooth here, but his 170th game for the club was full of the craft, skill and guile that he has brought to his game ever since the days of Blackbird Road. Sweeping up behind centre halves Chris Eames and Mark Chater, Garden cleared up everything within yards of him in the first half, and his trademark long throw even set up the first Polska goal on 12 minutes for Karol Osipinski, striking for Polska for the first time. But if Garden is one of many whose Polska career seemingly goes on year after year, at the other end, Mark Inglis is just as evergreen - and his two goals on 25 and 31 minutes took him to the 20-goal mark for the third time. And when Marek Dziopa scored a neat free kick on 34 minutes to give Polska a 4-0 interval lead, it was a satisfying first half performance from the reds who had played some good football against a young and inexperienced Wigston side, lacking confidence after a nightmare season has seen them plummet down the table into the relegation places. In the second half, Wigston were a lot more spirited, but still rode their luck and Polska hit both post and bar, and a number of chances were spurned - Spider Pajak looked certain to score his first ever goal for the club only to lift his effort over the bar from 5 yards out. There were also misses from many more players, before Chris Eames scored his first goal since September when slotting home on 81 minutes to complete the rout. It was Polska's first 5-0 win since December 2001
