Season 2015-16

A new season. A new home ground. A new striker marking his debut with a goal and Leicester Polska are up and running for the season with a 3-1 win over Cosby United Reserves.

Cosby started the brighter, but starting their first August game since 2007, Polksa got a foothold in the game after around 25 minutes. The blisteringly hot day seemed to drain Cosby who looked leggy and bereft of a few ideas as the first half entered its last 20 minutes. Polska seemed to grow in confidence despite missing the best chances - new centre forward Mantas Tevelis was put through on the counter as Polska defended a corner - but with only Cosby keeper Ian Rudkin to beat, he tried to lob him when the easier option would be to round him or slot either side of him. He then drew a fine save shortly after from Rudkin who tipped his powerful shot against the crossbar. Tevelis was causing Cosby problems, and was fouled three times with the referee trying to play advantage on each occasion. Eventually he tangled with Jack Young who was booked for a foul tackle, and harshly picked up a caution of his own as the two exchanged verbal pleasantries. 0-0 half time.

With the second half just 61 seconds old, Krogulec planted a perfect midfield pass into the path of Tevelis who this time made no mistake, slotting past Rudkin in a 1 on 1 to give Polska the lead. Polska seemed to relax and sit back too much on their lead as a result, and Cosby enjoyed a good spell putting their hosts under pressure. Tevelis got flagged for offside and then inexplicably booted the ball away, giving the referee no option but to issue a second yellow on 71 minutes. Eventually Cosby equalised on 80 minutes when James Bloxham picked up a wayward Polska clearance to volley into the left hand side of the net in a well taken goal. But this seemed to galvanise Polska. On 86 minutes, man of the match Michal Lutowicz passed to sub Dobrzynski who made it 2-1. Fellow sub Gorny then set up Lutowicz for his own goal on 89 minutes as Polska celebrated a famous win.
