Matthews calls time on Polska career

(contributed by Mark Whait - 09/04/2007)

STU MATTHEWS has announced that he will be hanging up his boots for Polska at the end of the current season. Matthews joined Polska in the summer of 2001, and his first season was an instant success - he was voted Players Player of the Year and was also a key figure in the Polska side that won that years Presidents Cup. In fact, Matthews will always have bitter sweet memories of that game as he 'scored' Polska's fourth goal in the dying seconds only to see the heartless referee blow for full time before the ball crossed the line. Matthews has played over 120 games for the Eagles, although his tough and combative attitude has seen him earn a lions share of red and yellow cards over the years - he was even sent off during Polska's last game away to Thurnby. Matthews hopes to be involved in the management set up next season, and would dearly love to end this season as he did his first one - with silverware!
