Season 1996-97
Match Report | Controversy reigns in this match. Both KPE & Polska, now top - yes, top - of the league clash in a huge match at Blackbird Road. With the Sky cameras covering the clash, the only thing missing for this great spectacle is a referee. So KPE provide 'their' ref for the first half, with future LPFC manager Mark Whait doing the second. Polska dominate the first half, but only have 1 goal to show for it - curry house fugitive Adam Webb on 17 minutes. KPE then dominate the second, scoring on the hour mark, only for Rob Crane, bursting through from his midfield dynamo area to miss a good chance at the death. The game ends 1-1, but not without second half referee Mark Whait suffering huge amounts of verbal abuse from red faced KPE players, screaming for 2 penalties. Whait claims he saw neither alleged incidents of handball, only for George Okuniewski and Rys Procinski to both admit afterwards that they did partake in a spot of Sunday juggling. KPE file a complaint to the spineless Sunday League who order the game to be replayed, only for Mad Mark Whait to appeal the decision at the County FA who rule in his favour. Mark also succeeds in getting a rule included for all future games thanks to his own endeavours - in future, only ONE ref must take charge of the whole game. | |
