 Match Report

With echoes of last years controversial 6-5 loss to the same side, Polska put up another gutsy display against a Scraptoft Garage side who were made to work hard for their win. Not that you would have guessed it after 35 minutes as they raced into a 3-0 lead with Polska looking fairly sorry for themselves. Jake Limbert again got a hat trick for the hosts, and he must love playing against Polska as he notches three each time he plays us. 108 of his 247 career goals so far have come against us. Tom Lane gave Polska an unlikely life line with a well taken penalty on 41 minutes, before John Martin Garden continued his good recent run of form to make it 3-2 at half time. Garden has now scored 3 in his last 4, and if you discuss it with him on Thursday nights after training even he can't explain his golden touch at the moment (in joke). Scraptoft somehow couldn't quite believe it was only 3-2 at half time. Many of their players had actually popped into the clubhouse on 36 minutes for an early beer. With a pitch that resembled the wettest Glastonbury Festival on record, Garage started the better. Here's a spooky stat. In our quarter final last time, Garage scored in the 18th minute of both halves. Today, they scored in the 14th minute of both halves. Alan Chater then pulled one back on 62 minutes to make it 4-3, cheered on by his family who had received complimentary tickets. How they must look forward to Sunday mornings. Experts reckon they will both be involved on the pitch in some games before the end of the season. Garage then went 5-3 up and looked to have killed the game off before Christopher Brian Lewis then scored a spectacular 74th minute goal. Even the passengers on the trains that passed by at the top of the ground at regular intervals were out of their carriage seats applauding that one. Garage then managed to pull 6-4 and then 7-4 up with 2 goals in the 84th and 85th minute, but there was still time for another Polska goal. A last minute penalty saw Tom Lane dispatch another goal to make it 7-5, despite the urgings of the travelling Polska fans to let Rys Procinski take it and end his 12,000 minute goal drought. (Least he turns up every week before anyone says anything!). So all in all a great performance from the lads, and as it is possible we may be playing in different divisions next season, it may well be we don't have another Polska-Scrappy garage fixture until at least 2027.
