 Match Report

LEICESTER POLSKA recorded a good 2-1 win at the expense of GT, a team who have never won a game at Knighton Park, and lost the three times they have played here. GT started the stronger, and Polska seemed to struggle to find an early tempo. Ben Jarvis caught the Polska defence flat footed when he gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. But as Polska began to settle into the game, they tested the GT defence more and more, and Savo Wieczorek volleyed home impressively in the 24th minute to equalise. Polska then looked more assured, and reserve team debutant Tom Dunkley slotted in well at right back. Alan Mark Chater then kept his composure in the box to put Polska 2-1 up on 58 minutes. The hosts came under intense pressure in the final third of the match as GT worked hard to find an equaliser, but although they had the chances to level the scores, they simply couldn't find the net. Their cause was not helped by Andzrej Podburalzynski who made two great saves in the second half. Polska saw out the game to win their second successive home league game. The last meeting between these two teams came in February 2004 when Savo Wieczorek scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win. Jeff Boulton is also proving something of a lucky talisman for the first team. His last 5 starts have all coincided with Polska defeats, one draw and four wins.
