 Match Report

LEICESTER POLSKA got off to the perfect start for the season - a 2-0 win away from home - and lie third in the very early league table. Their last game against Hurricanes was in December 2007 (which they won 4-2) - and only Tom Lane from that original line up was present in this one.

It was a scrappy game and Hurricanes may rue some missed chances, but Polska scored on 6 minutes when Tomasz Godziebiewski was put through on goal thanks to a dreadful defensive error from the hosts. The Polish midfielder was scoring his first goal since January, and headed over the prostrate keeper after his original shot was parried. Hurricanes were then awarded a penalty in the 25th minute, only for Spider Pajak to get down low to his left to save the effort. In the second half, Polska had to concede possession to a home side desperate to get back into the game. But they were always likely to punish their hosts on the counter attack and that was exactly what they did. Just a minute after coming on as sub, debutant right back David Wasik passed an exquisite through ball to Radek Gagliewski, who made no mistake with just the keeper to beat.

Man of the match Pajak made another stunning save towards the end, to give Polska only their second opening day win in 6 seasons. They also scored for the 26th consecutive game.

PLAYER PERFORMANCES:

PAJAK: Man Of The Match. Won every set peice he came out for, saved a first half penalty and pulled off a stunning stop late on. Was a rock behind his defence. His 2nd clean sheet in goal for Polska in 7 games, and his 2nd penalty save, following Sunbury United last season.

LANE: Starting his 13th season for the club, the evergreen Englishman was a vital part of the defence, vocal and organised.

MARK CHATER: Another cool, assured display from the centre half, who carried his impressive pre season form through to this game with style.

WYSOCZANSKI: Was as committed and solid as ever, replaced on 69 minutes by Wasik.

CRANE: Skippering the side on his 200th appearance for the club, Crane was excellent in the air, and was making his first Polska appearance since March 2007.

ALAN CHATER: Started right midfield, then switched to the left later on, got involved in all the midfield action and worked hard.

GODZIEBIEWSKI: Took his goal cleverly, and combined well with Osipinski in the middle of the park. Showed great skill at times and not far off man of the match.

OSIPINSKI: Was at the heart of all the Polska midfield moves, and worked well in tandem with Godziebiewski.

KRAGULEC: A very good display from the young left midfielder. Got stuck in well with some good tackles and worked extremely hard. Replaced after 80 minutes by Stepien.

WIECZOREK: Should reach the Top 10 all time Polska appearance list this season, this was his 174th game and had to be content to feed on scraps. Worked hard for 90 minutes.

GAGLIEWSKI: Sealed the game for Polska on 71 minutes with a cool finish, came alive after his goal and was a menace to the Hurricanes defence.

SUBS:

WASIK: Caught the eye after coming on on 69 minutes, set up Polska's second with a superb pass to Gagliewski.

STEPIEN: Played the last 10 minutes, but shored up the midfield at just the right time.
